High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure also known as hypertension is often called the “silent killer” because it typically has no symptoms until serious damage has already been done. At Vitology Health, we take a proactive approach to blood pressure management, helping patients lower their numbers, reduce their risk, and protect their long-term heart health.

What Is High Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. When this force is consistently too high, it puts strain on your heart and blood vessels, increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and other serious complications.

Blood pressure is measured in two numbers

- Systolic (top number): Pressure when your heart beats
- Diastolic (bottom number): Pressure between heartbeats

Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80 mmHg. High blood pressure is generally defined as 130/80 mmHg or higher.

Risk Factors for Hypertension

- Family history of high blood pressure
- Being overweight or obese
- Physical inactivity
- High sodium diet
- Excessive alcohol consumption
- Smoking
- Chronic stress
- Age (risk increases after 45)
