TB Screening

Tuberculosis (TB) testing is required for many jobs, schools, healthcare settings, and immigration applications and Vitology Health makes the process fast, easy, and stress free. We offer reliable TB skin testing and results interpretation, with documentation provided for your records or compliance requirements.

What Is Tuberculosis (TB)?

Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that primarily affects the lungs, though it can affect other parts of the body. TB spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. There are two forms:

Latent TB Infection (LTBI): The bacteria are present in your body but inactive. You have no symptoms and are not contagious. However, latent TB can become active if left untreated.

Active TB Disease: The bacteria are active, causing symptoms, and the person can spread TB to others.

Symptoms of Active TB

- Persistent cough lasting 3 or more weeks
- Coughing up blood or mucus
- Chest pain when breathing or coughing
- Unintentional weight loss
- Fatigue
- Fever and night sweats
- Loss of appetite

Who Needs TB Testing?

TB testing is commonly required for:

- Healthcare workers and medical staff
- Teachers and school employees
- Childcare workers
- Food service employees
- Employees in correctional facilities or shelters
- Students (at certain schools and universities)
- Immigration and visa applications
- Anyone with potential recent exposure to TB

Our TB Testing Services

Tuberculin Skin Test (TST / PPD Test):

This is the standard TB screening method. A small amount of tuberculin is injected just under the skin of the forearm. You return 48–72 hours later for a trained provider to read and interpret the result.

Our TB screening services include:
- TB skin test (PPD) administration
- Result reading and interpretation at your return visit (48–72 hours later)
- Documentation for clearance — official paperwork for employers, schools, or immigration
- Guidance on next steps, if your result is positive — including referrals for chest X-rays or further evaluation

Comprehensive Allergy Testing

We also offer allergy testing to help identify and manage any allergies you may have. Our thorough testing and personalized treatment plans ensure that you receive the best care possible for your allergies.

Important Notes About TB Testing

- A positive TB skin test does not necessarily mean you have active TB — further testing is needed to confirm

- If you have previously received the BCG vaccine (common outside the United States), this may affect your skin test result — please inform our staff

- Results are typically ready to be read within 48–72 hours of the test
